The bay is very safe for beginners, especially at low tide, where you can sail and still be within standing depth.

The Bay can be sailed in almost any wind direction, but S-SE is directly off shore and best sailed at low tide due to the wind shadow close to shore at high tide.
SW is the prevailing direction, and is cross-off shore providing flat water sailing.
Any direction with an 'N' in it provides more swell and waves, and can get a bit lumpy nearer high tide, with not much beach left to exit the water.

There are only a few obstacles to avoid:
At the far west end of the Bay, there is a pipe heading about half mile out to sea. Watch your fin. The end of the pipe is marked with a buoy.
Just to the right of the club hut, there is a groyne going out about 100m. This is clearly marked and is fully exposed at low tide. Watch your fin mid tide.
The final thing to watch is your feet. Whilst most of the Bay is nice soft sand, hidden under the water there are several mussel beds, which can be sharp, so wear something on your feet.
